“As Good As It Gets”

We are amazed by our new Gleam tub. I have had hot tubs in the past but never anything like this. The ease-of-use with my salt cell, the phenomenal surround sound system, the LED lighting – it has it all! Really good circulation from the multi-pump system. My friends are amazed. Therapeutic and fun at the same time.

One Great Spa!

We tore out our old inground spa and looked for months at almost all manufacturers of above ground spas. I went from dealer to dealer and finally settled on the Hot Springs Gleam model for a number of reasons – recommendation from friends on quality, the layout and size of this model, And where we wanted to put it the way the cover opened to the long side was perfect to allow the best views. Friends joked why we got such a big spa but my wife and I are tall and feel it’s perfect for the two of us. Chas and his wife Hope of Spas Etc. of Ventura CA were great.

Exactly What The Family Wanted

This is one of, if not the largest hot tubs available. As such it was somewhat of a chore to get it hooked up electrically. Although it will run with a common 50 AMP subpanel service, to use it to its full capacity (all three pumps operating simultaneously) you need a 70 AMP subpanel. This may require more wiring than you want to have done. I’ve rated the energy efficiency as good but I really won’t know for sure until we’ve gone through the winter.
As far as water maintenance we opted for the ACE salt system. If you have purchased this and decide to do the initial setup yourself make sure you read both manuals first before doing anything. They are somewhat contradictory. The Hot Springs manual will tell you not to fill the hot tub with softened water as this might damage the spa’s equipment. This is interesting because if you have the ACE system installed the first thing you are instructed to do in their manual is to check the water chemistry and if the hardness is too high to then lower it using the Vanishing Act calcium remover. After this is done you then add salt (NaCl# to enable the ACE electrode to electrolytically generate the chlorine-based oxidizers that provide the sanitization. I find this setup process very strange, especially if you have a water softener. A water softener removes hardness #calcium ions# by replacing it with sodium ions in the form of sodium chloride #NaCl). Therefore, a typical home water softener likely produces water that the ACE manual recommends you start with and contrary to what the Hot Springs manual recommends. I suppose the water could be too soft to start with but I doubt any of the softeners give < 25 ppm, especially over a 550 gal fill. Or, of course, if you use potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride this might msake a difference. It would be nice if you could call Hot Springs directly and ask them these questions but you will not find their phone number. This forces you to go through the dealer, and if he/she is not technically saavy this could be very frustrating.
I find the blue and green-lit Logo on the front of the tub indicating whether everything is operating well to be wonderful. This will be particulary appreciated during the winter. When the ACE system needs more salt, for example, the green LED blinks. Short of a complete remote indicator this is the next best thing.
I’m a bit of a techie so forgive my indulgence into the electrial and water chemistry setup above.
The tub is well built, cleans easily, and seems like it will be easily servicable from the access panel. There are jets for everything and the water feature is a nice touch. It is used almost daily by the family so we must keep the ACE system operating at max capacity. THe lighting options are awesome. My favorite is all green as it looks like you are tubbing in big vat of lime Jello.
At this point I would rate their tub as wonderful. Only time will tell whether it will stand the test of time.

Hot Tub Pricing

Hot tub shopping can be similar to car shopping, however one noticeable difference is that there is rarely MSRP pricing on manufacturer websites. While price is important, it’s only part of the whole story because it really doesn’t tell you anything about value or quality.
